I'm someone who has had what some might call a chequered career - a farm labourer before I left school doing odd jobs evenigns and weekends, to earn money for school books and for home. From there I graduated to occasional building work, and a part-time amateur radio DJ career between 1982-86 in the South of France. I trained as a chef and worked as one quite happily until my back gave way. I then moved to London to pursue a career in music for a while, before retraining again in environment and international development. And here I am, aged 44, what some would call an 'expert' in organic cotton, especially the promotion and support of farmers and analyst of opportunities and challenges for farmers. I quite enjoy the work, if it is very frustrating also to navigate between the opportunists and the idealists and those who are motivated more by ideology or career than by really trying to make a difference.
So, where next?
